My commitment to your safety
As I reopen my practice I wanted to update you on the new measures that will be in place to keep you safe when you come for treatment. The first thing is that it is safer for the moment to relocate to a dedicated clinic environment, which has worked to put measures in place to minimise exposure. Apart from the usual precautions I am now following new recommendations in line with government and British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) guidance.

Before the first session
I will email or send you this Statement of Practice and the BAcC Covid 19 Health Information and Consent Form. These should be emailed or sent back before the session if possible.

Staggered session times
Session times will be staggered and I will create 15 minute gaps between each client. The session length will now be 45 minutes, with a remote consultation before the face to face session for new clients. During the 15 minute gap between clients the practitioner will open the door and windows to clear the air in the room, disinfect any equipment used and wipe down the table, chair, treatment couch and door handles.

Arrival at the clinic
In order to avoid too many people gathering in the waiting area, please time your arrival for 2 or 3 minutes before your start time. There is a hand sanitiser unit as you come in.

Heightened Deep-Cleaning Process
I will be using disinfectant on frequently touched surfaces after each client visit. We have changed the towelling couch covers for PVC and we will be using (surprisingly comfortable) wipeable pillow cases in order to be able to safely clean these surfaces between clients. The clinic will be cleaned and bins emptied every day at the end of the day. If we are advised that anyone with Covid 19 has accessed the clinic we will close the building and carry out a deep clean.

Personal Protective Equipment
For your safety I will wear fluid resistant face masks supplied by retailers recommended by the British Acupuncture Council, as well as a face visor. These retailers are not in competition with NHS supply routes. My clinic clothes will be washed after every session as will any towels or sheets used during your visit. I will wash my hands frequently in order to avoid the necessity of the wearing of gloves.

In order to avoid excessive laundry we will only be providing one towel/sheet per person. If you would like more covering please bring your own sheet or blanket.

Online pre-sessions and tongue pictures
All clients will have an initial remote session by email or phone, or possibly Zoom. This will usually be in the week before treatment and for as long as you need to discuss everything you want. It also means that face to face sessions can be kept to a 45-60 minute time frame. Follow up sessions will involve an online check prior to treatment in order to keep time in the session focussed on your treatment.

In the online/phone pre-session I will
• Ask if you have a temperature, new persistent cough or loss of taste or smell in the last 7 days
• Ask if any members of your household have symptoms of Covid or are in high risk category
• Check through a Covid Secure Risk Assessment with you
• Ask you to complete a BAcC Covid Consent Form to sign and email back or bring to the appointment
• Discuss your current health issues and ask my general life and health questions, including any results or reports you may have received, or issues arising since I last saw you
• Look at your tongue – I may ask you to take a picture and send it to me
• Plan your acupuncture treatment so you can plan what to wear

It may be good to prepare a list of things you want to talk about for the online consult so as to minimise close contact talking during your relaxing acupuncture session.

Your acupuncture appointment
• Contact me if anything has changed from the day before
• Aim to arrive at the time of your appointment
• Arrive wearing a mask and keep it on throughout your appointment
• Wear clothes that minimise the need to get undressed
• Bring a bag to put your shoes and clothes in
• Bring your own towel if you would like to
• Bring your consent form if you haven’t emailed it

Please bring your own drinking water. Please also make sure to practice social distancing when in shared spaces like the waiting room.

Don’t come in if…
If you or any member of your family, have a cough, fever, or symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the clinic until you’re symptom-free for seven days. Follow government guidelines with regard to attendance.
A full refund will be given and we will reschedule as soon as is possible. Feel free to call if you are unsure.

After the treatment
If you develop symptoms of Covid-19 within 2 days of acupuncture treatment, please inform the practitioner immediately. You should then request a test for Covid-19 and inform the practitioner of the results immediately. After the first phone call, the practitioner will then take the appropriate actions designated by NHS England and the BAcC, and appropriately after the 2nd call.
Test and Trace
In the eventuality that I (the practitioner) get symptoms of COVID-19 within 48 hours of having close contact with you during the appointment and then later test positive, I am obligated under law to provide your name, phone number or email and the date and time of your visit to the test and trace service. Please note that by attending the appointment you give consent for this.

You can scan your Test and Trace app against the College Practice QR code, which is in every room and by the front and back door.

And finally...
We understand that all these new measures might seem over-fussy, but we believe that once you start your treatment you’ll find yourself back in a familiar, relaxing place with a sense of safety.
Thank you for your understanding.
